War Memorial Trustee and SF Veterans Memorial Working Committee Co-Chairman MajGen J. Michael Myatt (Ret), meets with cast of "Heart of a Soldier" Opera

August 23, 2011

War Memorial Trustee and Co-Chairman MajGen J. Michael Myatt met with the cast of San Francisco Opera's premier opera, "Heart of a Soldier". The opera is based on the remarkable military service and life of Rick Rescorla, decorated Vietnam Veteran and hero of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

The cast engaged Trustee Myatt, also a Vietnam Veteran, with questions about the experience of Vietnam Veterans and all Military Veterans who have served our nation. In support of the San Francisco Veterans Memorial Project, the San Francisco Opera is generously opening its final dress rehearsal for Heart of a Soldier – a true story of war, love, friendship and heroism – to Veterans, their families and guests…FREE OF CHARGE.

The San Francisco Veterans Memorial will honor a 75-year promise to our nation’s military veterans by installing a Veterans Memorial in the Memorial Court, located between the War Memorial Veterans Building and Opera House. Landscape architect Thomas D. Church’s original 1920’s vision called for a memorial and the Veterans Memorial Steering Committee is raising private funds for its design, installation and maintenance.
