On June 8, 2011, our three finalist design teams unveiled their proposals for the public, one of which will be selected to fulfill landscape architect Thomas D. Church’s original 1920’s vision for the San Francisco War Memorial Complex. Each team has experience creating memorials and presented distinct designs that represent their diverse backgrounds and artistic practices.

By incorporating the existing octagonal area of the Memorial Court—which contains consecrated soils from battlefields throughout the world where Americans have fought and died—the San Francisco Veterans Memorial will permanently embody our gratitude to these brave men and women.

Co-chair of the San Francisco Veterans Memorial Working Committee, War Memorial Trustee MajGen J. Michael Myatt, USMC (Ret.), stated: “We have selected an exceptional group of finalists. We were extremely impressed with their previous projects, and we are confident that each will develop an excellent proposal for this Memorial, which will mean so much for our Veteran community.”
